6 TIPS ON LABELING BOXES WHEN YOU MOVE

The secret to every successful move is PREPARATION and ORGANIZATION. Having these two would ensure an efficient and hassle-free move. Aside from making a moving checklist and coordinating with your hired movers, another important thing to do is to organize your moving boxes.

To be honest, it is overwhelming to look at several boxes stacked on top of another and having a truck loaded with identical boxes, but organizing them would make the job less arduous and more efficient. In addition, if not properly labeled, these boxes can surely make the unpacking process an absolute nightmare. Fortunately the solution is quite simple. Putting labels on each of them would make a world of difference. Labeling boxes will save you and your movers lots of time during the delivery and unpacking process.

Stacked moving boxes

HERE ARE SOME TIPS WHICH YOU CAN USE FOR LABELING BOXES

PUT LABELS ON EVERY SIDE OF THE BOX

Doing this will save you much time in determining what their contents are and which room they need to go into. Write down the contents and which room they should be placed into using a label marker or a permanent marker. For example, “Kitchen – Stainless Steel Spoon and Fork, Glasses, Plates, Etc”.

Also, putting labels on each side can help streamline the loading and unloading process therefore cutting down the time it needs to finish this task.

USE THE COLOR-CODING SYSTEM

Labeling boxes using the color-coding system is another great method you can use. You can use colored markers, different colors of packing tape, stickers or any similar items to categorize the contents of each box, as well as which room each of them should go to. To successfully utilize this system, don’t forget to color-code the different rooms where the boxes need to be placed. The variety of colors would easily help you to determine where things should be. Doing this will also help you to identify any boxes that are out of place.

LABELING BOXES USING NUMBERS

If you don’t like writing or using colors, then maybe numbers would work for you. Similar to the color-coding system in concept, you can place the importance of the box using a series of numbers. For example, any box with the number ‘1’ are of high priority and should be unpacked first. On the other hand, a box with the number ‘0’ can refer to boxes containing items that you don’t necessarily need immediately. Don’t forget to number-code each room (place the number on the door so it’s easily seen). For example, Room 1 (refers to the kitchen). You can also try to combine the color-coding and number system. It’s definitely much more efficient and time-saving.

DON’T FORGET TO USE THE PHRASE ‘FRAGILE’ OR ‘HANDLE WITH CARE’

Labeling boxes depending on how fragile their contents are benefits you as well as the mover. It tells them to handle the box with special care and attention while it reminds you which box to check first since they contain expensive items. Remember to write the words in BIG, BOLD letters so everyone who sees the box can read it right away.

SPECIFY WHICH ROOM THEY SHOULD GO TO

A lot of these moving boxes already have a checklist of the different rooms in the house. All that’s left is to check the box which corresponds to the place where they should be placed. Either in the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, patio, garage, etc.

If there is no checklist available, just write down where it should go on the sides of the box along with the other label. If you do this, the time that you spend for unpacking will be reduced since everything that you’ll be unpacking belongs in the same room. Also, this process lessens the unwanted clutter inside every room.

HIRE PROFESSIONAL MOVERS AND PACKERS
